Amaran is a 2024 Tamil biographical action war film. It is directed by Rajkumar Periasamy and produced by Raaj Kamal Films International and Sony Pictures Films India. Sivakarthikeyan stars as Major Mukund Varadarajan, alongside Sai Pallavi, Bhuvan Arora, and Rahul Bose. The film adapts India’s Most Fearless by Shiv Aroor and Rahul Singh. It narrates the heroics of Mukund through the perspective of his wife, Indhu Rebecca Varghese, as she travels to New Delhi to receive his posthumous Ashoka Chakra.

The project was announced in January 2022 under the working title Sivakarthikeyan 21. The title Amaran was revealed in February 2024. Principal photography began in May 2023, spanning locations like Kashmir, Chennai, and Pondicherry. Filming concluded after a year. The music was composed by G. V. Prakash Kumar. CH Sai handled cinematography in his debut, and R. Kalaivanan served as the editor.

The film was released worldwide on 31 October 2024, coinciding with Diwali. It received critical acclaim for performances, direction, screenplay, and music. Amaran was a commercial success, breaking several box office records. It became the second-highest-grossing Tamil film of 2024 and the ninth-highest-grossing Indian film of the year.

The story begins with Indhu Rebecca Varghese traveling to New Delhi with her daughter, Arsheya, and her in-laws. They are on their way to receive the Ashoka Chakra awarded to Mukund posthumously. Reflecting on her journey, Indhu narrates Mukund’s life story.

Indhu meets Mukund during her undergraduate days at Madras Christian College in Chennai. Mukund helps her participate in a modeling competition, which sparks their relationship. Mukund shares his dream of joining the Indian Army, which faces resistance from his mother. With support from Indhu and his father, Mukund clears the NDA exam and begins his military career.

Their love grows, but Indhu’s family opposes their union due to cultural differences. After overcoming familial objections, they marry in 2009 and have a daughter in 2011. Mukund’s military career thrives as he undertakes missions in Mhowgaon and the Syria-Lebanon border. In 2012, he joins the 44th Rashtriya Rifles in Kashmir, leading his team in a successful mission against terrorist Altaf Baba.

Mukund faces a new threat from Jaish-e-Mohammed commander Asif Wani. During his recovery from an injury, he spends time with Indhu and their daughter. He makes Indhu promise to stay strong, even in his absence. Back in Kashmir, Mukund leads daring operations. In a climactic battle, Mukund kills Wani but succumbs to his injuries.

The film concludes with Indhu receiving the Ashoka Chakra from President Pranab Mukherjee in 2015. Mukund’s bust is unveiled at the Officers Training Academy. In the final scene, Indhu feels Mukund’s comforting presence, symbolizing his enduring spirit.
