Anweshippin Kandethum is a 2024 Indian Malayalam-language police procedural drama. The film is directed by Darwin Kuriakose and written by Jinu V Abraham. It is produced by Darwin Kuriakose and Dolwin Kuriakose.

The movie features Tovino Thomas in the lead role. Supporting roles are played by Indrans, Siddique, Shammi Thilakan, Sadiq, Azees Nedumangad, and Baburaj.

In Anweshippin Kandethum, Anand, a determined sub-inspector, finds himself entangled in a complex murder investigation. Initially, his efforts to investigate are met with fierce resistance from a church group. They vehemently oppose the police entering the church premises. Frustrated and determined, Anand uses force to push forward. However, his actions bring him under scrutiny. A senior officer reprimands him for acting alone on such a sensitive case.

Amid this tension, a breakthrough occurs. A dead body is discovered nearby. The victim’s father, Mathan, identifies her as Lovely, his missing daughter. The case takes a significant turn. Anand’s senior officer removes him from the investigation. A new officer, Mr. Alex, is assigned to take charge. Behind closed doors, the senior officers discuss the political implications of the case. The murder has stirred tensions between rival groups, and the media is fueling the fire. They decide to pin the blame on a convenient scapegoat to quickly close the case.

Unaware of this plan, Anand tries to share his findings. He suggests interrogating Father Thomas, a pastor from the nearby Badani monastery. But his senior dismisses him, warning him to stay away from the case. Meanwhile, a police dog’s search leads the team to the monastery, strengthening Anand's suspicions. He theorizes that Lovely’s body was hidden there before being dumped into the well. He requests a forensic examination, but his pleas are ignored.

Instead, the senior officers arrest Sahadevan, an ex-criminal from the neighborhood. Despite Sahadevan’s protests of innocence, the police subject him to brutal torture. Anand is forced to watch silently. Mathan, Lovely’s father, approaches Anand in private. He insists that Sahadevan couldn’t have killed Lovely, as they had known each other since childhood. Mathan introduces a witness, Siraj, a local bus driver. Siraj claims to have seen Lovely entering the monastery on the day of her murder around 1 p.m. He begs Anand to find the real culprit instead of punishing an innocent man.

Determined to uncover the truth, Anand restarts his investigation unofficially. He discovers discrepancies in the forensic reports. The original report seems doctored, suggesting the case was manipulated to frame Sahadevan. A second forensic examination uncovers shocking details, pointing the investigation in a new direction.

At this point, the audience is left with pressing questions: Who killed Lovely? What was the motive? As the plot thickens, an unexpected twist brings the first part of the story to an end.

The second half begins with a dramatic turn in Anand’s career. Suspended for his actions, Anand is offered a chance at redemption. His senior assigns him to an unsolved case in a remote village. This case, which has baffled the police for six years, could potentially restore Anand’s reputation if solved.

The new case proves challenging. The villagers, deeply distrustful of the police, refuse to cooperate. Years of harassment and abuse by local officers have left them resentful. Led by the Panchayat President, they stand united against the police. Despite this, Anand and his team dig deeper.

Communicating with officers who worked on the case previously, they find little useful information. Every lead seems to end in a deadlock. However, a chance discovery provides a breakthrough. This clue breathes new life into the investigation, leading Anand closer to the truth.

Director Prasobh Vijayan has crafted a gripping narrative with Anweshippin Kandethum. The film maintains a steady pace, keeping viewers engaged. Side characters deliver surprisingly natural performances, sometimes outshining the main cast. The smooth narration avoids unnecessary drama, making the story immersive.

With its intricate plot and strong performances, Anweshippin Kandethum is a must-watch for crime-thriller enthusiasts. It offers suspense, twists, and an engaging exploration of justice and morality.
