Back to Black is a 2024 biographical drama about Amy Winehouse, played by Marisa Abela. Directed by Sam Taylor-Johnson, it also stars Jack O'Connell, Eddie Marsan, and Lesley Manville.

In 2018, Amy Winehouse's estate agreed to make a film about her life. Filming took place in London from January to April 2023. The movie was released in Australia on April 11, 2024, in the UK on April 12, and in the US on May 17, 2024. It has received mixed reviews and grossed $51 million worldwide.

Plot: Amy is raised in a Jewish family with a love for music. She signs a record deal and releases her debut album, Frank (2003). After success, the label wants to change her stage act, but Amy disagrees. She takes time off and meets Blake Fielder-Civil in Camden Town. They fall in love but face problems with addiction.

Blake's cocaine use and Amy's alcoholism and bulimia strain their relationship. Blake eventually breaks up with Amy to reconcile with his ex-girlfriend, Becky. Amy is heartbroken but finds inspiration to write Back to Black (2006), which becomes a global success.

Amy and Blake reunite, elope to Miami, but Blake is soon arrested. While Blake is in jail, Amy’s addiction worsens. Blake asks for a divorce, seeking a fresh start.

Amy checks into rehab and later wins five Grammy Awards. Three years later, she is clean but still struggles with alcohol. After a visit from her father, Mitch, the paparazzi reveal that Blake has a new girlfriend. Amy, heartbroken, sings "Tears Dry on Their Own."

The film ends with a postscript. Amy died on July 23, 2011, at 27 from alcohol poisoning, following a period of sobriety. She was laid to rest with her grandmother.
