Deadpool & Wolverine is a 2024 superhero film based on Marvel Comics. It features two of the most iconic characters in the Marvel universe: Deadpool and Wolverine. The film was produced by Marvel Studios, Maximum Effort, and 21 Laps Entertainment. Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures distributed it. This film marks the 34th entry in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) and serves as a continuation of the Deadpool series, following Deadpool (2016) and Deadpool 2 (2018).

The film was directed by Shawn Levy, with a screenplay written by Levy, Ryan Reynolds, Rhett Reese, Paul Wernick, and Zeb Wells. Ryan Reynolds reprises his role as Wade Wilson (Deadpool), while Hugh Jackman returns as the fan-favorite character Wolverine. The cast also includes Emma Corrin, Morena Baccarin, Rob Delaney, Leslie Uggams, Aaron Stanford, and Matthew Macfadyen. In the plot, Deadpool teams up with a reluctant Wolverine to stop the Time Variance Authority (TVA) from collapsing his universe and threatening the multiverse.

The idea for the third Deadpool film began development in 2016 under 20th Century Fox, but the production was delayed when Disney acquired Fox in 2019. With Disney's purchase of Fox, the project was handed over to Marvel Studios, which chose to keep the film's R-rating—a significant decision since it would be the first R-rated film in the MCU. Wendy and Lizzie Molyneux-Logelin were originally attached as writers, but in 2022, Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick returned to revise the script. That same year, Shawn Levy was brought in as director, and Hugh Jackman’s return as Wolverine was confirmed, adding a thrilling multiverse element to the storyline.

Filming for the movie began in May 2023 in England and other locations. However, production was delayed by the 2023 SAG-AFTRA strike, which temporarily halted filming. Despite these setbacks, the production resumed and was completed by early 2024, ensuring that the film would be ready for its release.

Deadpool & Wolverine premiered in New York City on July 22, 2024, and was officially released in the United States on July 26, 2024, as part of MCU Phase Five. The film quickly became a major success, grossing $1.34 billion worldwide. It surpassed previous records to become the highest-grossing R-rated film of all time and the second-highest-grossing film of 2024.

The story begins in 2018, when Deadpool saves his beloved Vanessa by using Cable’s time-travel device. Afterward, Deadpool attempts to join the Avengers on Earth-616, but his efforts are rejected. Six years later, Wade has retired from his life as Deadpool and works as a car salesman, alongside his friend Peter. Despite his new, quieter life, Deadpool’s past is never far behind.

During his birthday party, Deadpool is suddenly captured by the TVA. Mr. Paradox informs him that his timeline is collapsing because Logan, the anchor of his universe, is dead. Desperate to fix this, Wade tries to resurrect Logan but fails. Instead, he decides to bring a variant of Logan from another timeline to the TVA, hoping to reset the timeline. However, Paradox reveals that the Logan variant is unsuitable and sends them both to the Void, a dangerous dimension outside of time and space.

In the Void, Logan is initially reluctant to team up with Wade but eventually agrees to help him escape. The two of them encounter a resistance group led by Laura (X-23), Elektra, Blade, and Gambit, all of whom are fighting against Cassandra Nova, a powerful being who controls the Void. Together, they engage in a fierce battle to block Cassandra’s powers, but they are soon betrayed by Pyro, a follower of Cassandra. The betrayal forces Wade and Logan to escape to Earth-10005, where they face a new challenge: Cassandra Nova summons multiple Deadpool variants from different universes to fight them.

In an epic showdown, Wade and Logan manage to destroy the Time Ripper device that Paradox was using to manipulate the multiverse. This act prevents the collapse of the multiverse, but at a great cost. The two heroes survive the destruction by sharing the device's destructive energy, which ultimately saves the multiverse. Paradox is arrested, and Logan, having found a new sense of purpose, chooses to stay in Wade’s universe instead of returning to his own.

In the end, Wade reconciles with Vanessa, finding peace with both his past and his future, thanks to Logan’s encouragement. The movie concludes with the two iconic characters united, setting the stage for more adventures in the MCU.
