Greedy People is a 2024 crime comedy film from America. It is directed by Potsy Ponciroli and written by Michael Vukadinovich. The film stars Himesh Patel, Lily James, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Simon Rex, Tim Blake Nelson, Joey Lauren Adams, Uzo Aduba, and Jim Gaffigan. The movie was released in the United States on August 23, 2024, by Lionsgate.

Will Shelley is a police officer. He moves to a small island town with his pregnant wife, Paige. They are looking for a quiet life. On his first day on the job, Will meets his new partner, Terry Brogan. The town has very little crime. So, Terry decides to visit his girlfriend.

While in the car, Will hears a call about a sexual act in a vehicle. He thinks it is a burglary at the Chetlo residence. Terry does not hear Will's call. Will decides to go alone. When he arrives at the house, he sees movement. He shoots his gun. The movement turns out to be Virginia Chetlo. Will accidentally kills her.

Will is shocked. He doesn’t know what to do. Terry arrives and sees what happened. They realize they might lose their jobs. They decide to cover up the crime. They make the house look like a burglary. While looking around, they find a large bag of cash. Will is about to become a father. Terry plans to run away with his girlfriend. They hide the money in Terry's storage truck.

Later, Will tells Paige about what happened. He says Terry is to blame for the murder. Will gives Paige the storage truck's passcode. Paige feels uneasy. She invites Terry to dinner to learn more about him. The dinner makes Paige uncomfortable with Terry.

At the same time, Wallace, Virginia’s husband, is upset. He is the only seafood supplier on the island. He wants to find Virginia's killer. Captain Murphy suspects Wallace. He thinks Wallace killed his wife. He asks Will and Terry to investigate. The officers find that Wallace’s business is losing money. They think he killed Virginia for her life insurance.

But Wallace’s secretary, Deborah, says Wallace was with her at the time of the murder. Will and Terry then learn that Wallace is having an affair with Deborah. However, security footage shows Wallace did not kill his wife.

The truth is different. Wallace hired a hitman, the Colombian, to kill Virginia. But Virginia was already dead when the hitman arrived. Wallace assumed the Colombian killed his wife. He realizes he has to pay the hitman again. Wallace cannot leave with Deborah now. He suspects Virginia’s lover, Keith, took the money. Keith had an affair with Virginia. He was in the house when she was killed. But he escaped.

Will and Terry had already interviewed Keith. He lied to make himself look innocent. Keith and his mother planned to steal the money from Terry's truck. They are about to leave when Wallace confronts Keith. He accuses Keith of stealing the money. This leads to a fight. Keith’s mother shoots and kills Wallace. Deborah, who is in Wallace’s car, gets out. She kills Keith and his mother. Will sees everything and realizes he can blame anyone for Virginia’s death.

Meanwhile, Paige fears Terry will kill Will to take the money. She hires the Irishman to kill Terry. She pays him with money from Terry's truck. The Irishman confronts Terry at his boat. He gets the upper hand, but Terry’s girlfriend kills the Irishman. Terry, worried about Will and Paige, thinks one of them hired the hitman. He forces Will to call Paige. She admits to taking the money. Paige took it because she feared Terry would kill them.

Terry is angry. He kills Will. Paige tries to leave the island with the money. Terry catches her. Murphy, who is suspicious about Will and Terry, finds Will’s body. He calls Paige. Paige tells him Terry killed Virginia and Will. Murphy is not sure if Paige is telling the truth.

Terry catches up with Paige. He accuses her of lying and betraying him. Paige is scared. She runs, but Terry catches her. Murphy arrives and shoots Terry. Paige gives birth to her son. Before she can hold him, Murphy questions her. Paige sticks to her story. She says Terry went mad and killed Will.

The Colombian arrives at the hospital. He kills Paige and takes the money. Deborah follows him into the elevator. They realize they are both after the money. They fight and kill each other. Murphy sees the aftermath when the elevator doors open. Later, it is revealed that Murphy has adopted Will and Paige’s son. He will never fully understand what happened.
