The film is set in Hope Springs, NY, where Kathy Barrett, a widow, runs Kathy's Kafé. Since losing her husband, Paul, who was a skilled handyman, Kathy has been struggling. Her home is falling apart: the heater is broken, the roof leaks, and the staircase is damaged.

One morning, on her way to work, Kathy notices the town's annual snow sculpture competition. While delivering lunch to her friends Theo and Mel, who run a nearby clothing shop, they gift her a red scarf. They encourage her to find happiness again, even though she's still grieving. On her way home, Kathy admires the snowmen and whimsically places the red scarf on a muscular sculpture before snapping a photo.

To her astonishment, the snowman magically comes to life. Confused and unaware of his origins, the snowman, later named Jack, starts exploring the town. He frightens an elderly couple and accidentally breaks the window of Theo and Mel’s shop. He grabs overalls and galoshes from the store to cover himself.

The next morning, Kathy finds Jack talking to the other snowmen. Surprised but intrigued, she takes him to the town doctor, who confirms Jack’s body temperature is below freezing. Kathy decides to hide him at her house to protect him from Sheriff Nate, who is investigating the mysterious "criminal" responsible for the broken window.

Jack’s wide-eyed curiosity and excitement about the world charm Kathy, though his constant declarations of love and affection catch her off guard. Jack is eager to help, repairing Kathy’s leaky roof using tips from a DIY program. However, his shirtless efforts distract Kathy’s neighbor, who crashes her car into a snowbank. Jack helps her out and ends up fixing things at her house too, gaining a group of admirers.

Jack’s handyman skills lead him to assist the middle school principal, who is overwhelmed with preparations for the winter dance. While decorating the hall, Jack overhears a student successfully ask another to the dance. Inspired, he invites Kathy to be his date. She agrees, and they share a magical evening.

At the dance, Jack surprises Kathy with a silver snowflake necklace. As they dance, Kathy realizes Jack is overheating and quickly takes him outside to cool down. They nearly kiss, but Jack pulls back, worried that he might hurt her if he melts away.

On Christmas Eve, the town gathers at Kathy’s diner for a celebration. Sheriff Nate interrupts the festivities to arrest Jack, claiming he’s a troublemaker. The townspeople protest, but Nate insists on $2,000 bail. Kathy empties her diner’s safe, but it’s not enough. Moved by Jack’s kindness, the sheriff’s son offers to cover the remaining amount. Nate, seeing the Christmas spirit in action, relents and returns the money.

Kathy rushes to free Jack, but he collapses outside, appearing lifeless. Heartbroken, she kisses him and removes the red scarf. As she begins to walk away with the townspeople, Jack miraculously comes back to life, now transformed into a real human. Overwhelmed with joy, Kathy and Jack share a long-awaited kiss.

In the days that follow, Kathy and Jack start building a life together. On Christmas morning, they exchange gifts. Jack gives Kathy a repair manual so she can fix the heater herself, while Kathy surprises him with plane tickets to Hawaii. Despite the warm climate, the pair is ready to face new adventures together, leaving Hope Springs with hearts full of love and hope.
