Kanguva is a 2024 Indian Tamil-language epic fantasy action film. It is directed by Siva and produced by Studio Green and UV Creations. The film stars Suriya in dual roles, alongside Bobby Deol, Disha Patani, Natarajan Subramaniam, K. S. Ravikumar, Yogi Babu, Redin Kingsley, Kovai Sarala, Mansoor Ali Khan, Ravi Raghavendra, and Karunas. The story connects a fierce tribal warrior from 1070 with a bounty hunter and a child in 2024.

The film was first announced in April 2019 under the title Suriya 39. This was planned to be Suriya’s 39th film, but it was delayed by the COVID-19 pandemic and other issues. In August 2022, the project restarted under the title Suriya 42. Principal photography began in the same month and lasted for 17 months, wrapping up in January 2024. Locations included Chennai, Goa, Kerala, Kodaikanal, and Rajahmundry. The music was composed by Devi Sri Prasad, cinematography was handled by Vetri Palanisamy, and editing by Nishadh Yusuf. With a budget of ₹300-350 crore, it is one of the most expensive Indian films ever made.

Kanguva was released worldwide on 14 November 2024 in standard, 3D, and IMAX formats. It received negative reviews, with praise for Suriya’s performance and cinematography, but criticism for the writing, screenplay, editing, and loud sound.

In 2024, Zeta, a young test subject for brain enhancement, escapes from a Russian biomedical facility. The commander of the facility sends troops to recapture him. Meanwhile, in Goa, bounty hunter Francis Theodore works with his friend, Colt 95. Francis’s ex-girlfriend, Angela, and her partner, Accelerator, are rival bounty hunters.

Zeta follows Francis in Goa after witnessing Colt kill a target. Zeta seeks refuge with Angela, but Francis retrieves him. On their journey, Zeta suffers a seizure. They stay together at Francis’s home. Zeta begins drawing tribal patterns, triggering memories of Francis’s past life. The troops tracking Zeta locate him, leading to an attack. Zeta is captured, and Francis pursues them. As they chase, fragments of Francis’s past are revealed.

In 1070, Roman soldiers attempt to conquer Perumaachi, one of five islands near southern India. They kill 100 warriors defending the island with help from Koduvan, a local. One warrior, Selumaara, escapes and alerts the chieftain, Senthee. In retaliation, Senthee’s son, Kanguva "Kanga", executes Koduvan. Koduvan’s wife entrusts their son, Poruva, to Kanga before taking her own life. Kanga raises Poruva and trains him as a warrior.

The Romans ally with Udhiran, the chieftain of a neighboring island, Arathi, making tensions between the islands worse. Udhiran’s sons lead an assault on Kanga and his tribe. During the battle, Poruva stabs Kanga. Despite his injuries, Kanga defeats Udhiran’s sons and finds Poruva. Kanga returns to Perumaachi, but the tribe banishes them to Dark Island. There, Kanga and Poruva grow closer.

The women of Perumaachi kill Udhiran’s third son. Udhiran retaliates with a final attack on Dark Island. Kanga defeats Udhiran’s forces and confronts him aboard his ship. Poruva sacrifices himself to ensure Kanga’s victory. Devastated, Kanga kills Udhiran and vows to honor Poruva’s sacrifice. Udhiran’s illegitimate son, Rathaangasan, seeks revenge.

In 2024, Francis is revealed to be the reincarnation of Kanguva, and Zeta is the reincarnation of Poruva. Francis tracks them to a stripyard and attacks Zeta’s plane. He retrieves Zeta, but Kanga briefly takes over him. Confused by his connection to Zeta, Francis decides to take him in. Meanwhile, the facility commander, Ryan, is revealed to be the reincarnation of Rathaangasan. He knows his past life and decides to capture Zeta and Francis himself.
