Martin is a 2024 Indian Kannada-language action thriller film directed by A. P. Arjun, based on a story by Arjun Sarja. The film is produced by Uday K. Mehta and Suraj Uday Mehta and features Dhruva Sarja in a dual role alongside Vaibhavi Shandilya, Anveshi Jain, Sukrutha Wagle, Achyuth Kumar, and Nikitin Dheer. The music, including songs and the background score, is composed by Mani Sharma and Ravi Basrur, while Satya Hegde and K. M. Prakash handled cinematography and editing, respectively. Released theatrically on 11 October 2024, to coincide with the Dasara festival, Martin received negative reviews from critics and was a box office failure.

Plot Summary

In Pakistan, a mysterious man is injected with drugs, causing him to lose his memory and become dangerously aggressive. Captured and imprisoned, he escapes with the help of Pakistani locals, including a lollipop vendor, a weapons dealer, and Regina, an ally. Slowly regaining fragments of his memory, the man discovers that he is Arjun Saxena, an IRS officer. However, tragedy strikes when Regina is assassinated by Martin, a ruthless international crime boss infamous for targeting his victims’ left eye.

Determined to uncover the truth, Arjun contacts his friend Parashuram, an IPS officer. Parashuram reveals that Martin is a major target for law enforcement and warns Arjun that both he and his MMA fighter friend, Vivek, are in danger. Arjun returns to India, arriving in Mumbai via a cargo boat, to meet Parashuram at Andheri Railway Junction. However, Martin’s henchmen ambush them, killing Parashuram. Arjun tries to warn Vivek, who is participating in an MMA match, but Martin’s network strikes again, killing Vivek as well.

Reeling from these losses, Arjun reunites with his friend Sathya and Sathya’s fiancée Preeti. He learns that Preeti is Martin’s next target. To protect her, Arjun devises a plan to lure Martin to Mangalore using Preeti as bait. The plan appears to work, but in a shocking twist, Arjun regains another layer of his memory. He attacks Sathya, revealing his true identity—he is Martin. The revelation that Arjun and Martin are lookalikes adds complexity to the story.

The Past: Arjun’s Journey

The narrative delves into Arjun’s past, revealing how his life intertwined with Martin’s criminal empire. While on duty as an IRS officer, Arjun uncovered a shipment of defective and hazardous medicines run by Mushtaq, a notorious pharmaceuticals dealer. Arjun arrested Mushtaq’s men, disrupting his operations. Seeking revenge, Mushtaq hired Martin, who framed Arjun for the murder of Mushtaq’s associates. This led to Arjun’s suspension. Martin further threatened Arjun, warning him to back off or Preeti would be killed.

Determined to bring Martin to justice, Arjun teamed up with Parashuram and interrogated one of Martin’s henchmen, learning that Martin had fled to Pakistan. Arjun pursued him, enlisting the help of Pakistani allies like Shabnam, a weapons dealer and undercover officer. Martin, aware of Arjun’s presence, retaliated by killing Regina. The two finally confronted each other at an under-construction building, where Martin left Arjun gravely injured and in a coma. Unbeknownst to Martin, Shabnam rescued Arjun and took him to a safe location.

The Present: Confrontation and Chaos

In the present, Arjun arrives in Mangalore, where Martin is keeping Preeti under surveillance in a hospital. Arjun tracks them down, but Martin kidnaps Preeti and takes her to his hideout aboard a cruise ship. The tension escalates as Martin demands the return of his illegal cargo containers, while Arjun threatens to destroy them. Mushtaq, operating independently, attempts to outmaneuver both Martin and Arjun to retrieve the containers for himself.

As Arjun fights off Mushtaq’s bikers and artillery jeeps, Martin unexpectedly intervenes, destroying the jeeps. He reveals a shocking truth: Vivek, Parashuram, and Regina were secretly working for Mushtaq, who not only dealt in harmful medicines but also supplied illegal weapons to terrorist organizations. Martin explains that Mushtaq had betrayed him and attempted to have him killed to seize the illegal operations.

Arjun and Martin form an uneasy alliance. They agree that Martin will release Preeti in exchange for erasing Martin’s identity from the records. The two confront Mushtaq during a cargo exchange. In a climactic showdown, Martin and Arjun kill Mushtaq. Martin destroys the hazardous containers, seizing the money for himself before escaping. Meanwhile, Arjun completes his mission and receives accolades for his bravery.

Epilogue

Three months later, Arjun watches news reports of a series of murders across different cities. All the victims were targeted in the left eye, a signature of Martin. Realizing Martin is behind the killings, Arjun prepares for another confrontation. He receives a call from Martin, now living under a new identity as Rhino, setting the stage for their conflict to continue.
