Moana 2, also known as Vaiana 2 or Oceania 2 in some regions, is a 2024 American animated musical adventure film by Walt Disney Animation Studios. It is the sequel to Moana (2016) and the second movie in the franchise. The film is directed by David Derrick Jr., Jason Hand, and Dana Ledoux Miller in their directorial debuts. Christina Chen and Yvett Merino produced the film. Jared Bush and Dana Ledoux Miller wrote the screenplay.

The original cast, including Auliʻi Cravalho, Dwayne Johnson, Temuera Morrison, Nicole Scherzinger, Rachel House, and Alan Tudyk, reprise their roles. New cast members include Hualālai Chung, Rose Matafeo, David Fane, Awhimai Fraser, Khaleesi Lambert-Tsuda, and Gerald Ramsey.

Development initially started as a Disney+ series. It later turned into a theatrical film in February 2024. The music team from the first film, Mark Mancina and Opetaia Foa'i, returned, with new songwriters Abigail Barlow and Emily Bear joining the project.

Moana 2 premiered in Hawaii on November 21, 2024, and was released in U.S. theaters on November 27. It received mixed reviews and earned $389 million worldwide, breaking several box office records.

Three years after her adventure with Maui and Te Fiti, Moana explores nearby islands to find ocean-connected peoples. In a vision, her ancestor Tautai Vasa reveals the reason behind the disconnection: Nalo, a storm god, sank Motufetu, a legendary island that united the islands. Tautai warns Moana that Motunui will vanish if she doesn’t restore the island.

Moana assembles a crew from Motunui, including Loto, Moni, Keke, and her pets, Pua and Heihei. They follow a meteor toward Motufetu. Meanwhile, Maui searches for the island to confront Nalo but is captured by Matangi, Nalo's enforcer. Maui hesitates to call Moana, fearing for her safety.

Moana and her crew are captured by the Kakamora pirates, who reveal Nalo’s actions disconnected them from their home. Kotu, a Kakamora, helps the crew defeat a monster clam and rescue Maui from Matangi. Matangi, unhappy serving Nalo, helps them escape and points them toward Nalo's realm.

Maui warns Moana that Nalo’s domain is dangerous for mortals. Nalo's monsters ambush the group, wrecking their raft and stranding them on an island. Moana despairs, but Maui motivates her to continue. They repair their raft and prepare to confront Nalo.

In a deadly storm, Maui tries to lift Motufetu while Moana plans to restore it. Nalo strikes Maui with lightning, stripping him of his powers. Moana dives into the ocean and touches the island, breaking the curse but sacrificing her life. Maui revives her as a demigoddess with help from Tautai and her ancestors. Moana gains a wayfinder’s tattoo, and Maui regains his powers.

Together, they raise Motufetu, reconnecting the islands. Moana returns to Motunui with ocean peoples, and a grand celebration follows. In a mid-credits scene, Nalo plots revenge and teams up with Tamatoa, the giant crab.
