Murder Mubarak is a 2024 Indian Hindi-language mystery thriller. It is based on the novel Club You To Death by Anuja Chauhan. The film is directed by Homi Adajania and produced by Dinesh Vijan.

The cast includes Pankaj Tripathi, Karisma Kapoor, Sara Ali Khan, Vijay Varma, Dimple Kapadia, Sanjay Kapoor, Tisca Chopra, Suhail Nayyar, and Tara Alisha Berry. It was released on Netflix on 15 March 2024. Critics gave it mixed reviews.

Plot

The story takes place at the Royal Delhi Club. It is an exclusive space for Delhi’s upper class. The members mimic the British colonial elite. The main characters include:

- Yash Batra: A drug addict recently out of rehab but still struggling.

- Maharaja Rannvijay Singh: A broke royal competing for the club’s presidency.

- Roshni Batra: Yash’s mother who loves to brag.

- The Dogras: A middle-aged couple. Their son is in love with a Bengali girl.

- Aakash Dogra: Their son, back from Kolkata.

- Shehnaaz Noorani: An actress running for club president.

- Bambi Todi: A young widow and Aakash’s love interest.

- Cookie Katoch: An alcoholic sculptor.

- Bhatti: The current club president.

The staff at the club includes:

- Leo Matthews: A gym trainer with affairs involving many women at the club.

- Guppie Ram: An old servant with dementia.

- Thinsuk: A trainer from Arunachal Pradesh.

- Theju: A trainer from Karnataka.

- Minu Dimri: Theju’s girlfriend, who is also Leo’s lover.

- Ganga: A beauty parlor employee.

The story begins with Tambola Night. Each character is introduced. The next day, gym trainer Leo Matthews is found dead. A barbell crushed his windpipe. ACP Bhavani Singh and SI Padam Kumar take on the case.

Bhavani suspects murder. Party balloons covered the CCTV cameras. The club’s pet cat, Prince Harry (Hariya), also fell sick that day. The investigation begins.

Investigation

Roshni, Cookie, and Bambi discover Leo’s body in the gym. They suspect Aakash, who claimed to be Leo’s lawyer during a fight on Tambola Night. Aakash explains that he helped Leo in a drug case. The investigation reveals Shehnaaz had an affair with Leo. Rannvijay had an affair with Ganga.

The forensic report shows Leo was drugged. He had large amounts of Pinko Haathini in his system. This drug paralyzes muscles.

Bambi overhears this. She confesses to Aakash that Leo blackmailed her over her kleptomania. Together, they visit an orphanage called Shepherd’s Orphanage, where Bambi had made donations.

The orphanage’s donation list includes several club members. This raises new suspicions.

Twists and Revelations

The investigation reveals shocking secrets:

- Ajay Kumar: Ganga’s husband, was dealing drugs.

- Rannvijay Singh: He is impoverished. He’s gay and in a relationship with Thinsuk.

- The club garden hides a skeleton. It is initially believed to be Ajay’s.

- Guppie Ram kills himself, overwhelmed by guilt.

The skeleton is revealed to be Anshul’s, Bambi’s late husband. Anshul had an affair with Ganga and wanted to divorce Bambi. In a fit of rage, Bambi killed him with a sculpted bust. Guppie helped her hide the body.

Leo discovered the secret and blackmailed Bambi. She killed him using Pinko and tried to frame Yash. She later attempted to kill Yash and caused Guppie’s suicide.

Ending

Bhavani Singh gathers all the suspects. He exposes the truth. Bambi confesses to her crimes. She is arrested.

Aakash, who was suspected at first, is cleared of all charges. Bhavani advises him to stay away from Bambi’s case.

In the final scene, it is revealed Aakash has no girlfriend in Kolkata.
